Voices of Moncrieff has received a grant of $13,000 from Climate 200’s Community Accelerator Fund.
The grant will support our efforts to continue building a grassroots movement in our Gold Coast electorate. This comes after our group began a community listening project in December 2023 to understand the issues that matter most to locals. To date over 200 people from our electorate have had their say.
We are excited to partner with values-aligned donors on our journey. Climate 200's base of 11,000 donors, over 20 of which are based in Moncrieff, is a huge boost. As is the support of our grassroots donors who have pledged funds or already chipped in for us to buy t-shirts for volunteers and pay for our community events.
Voices of Moncrieff is a group of residents who care about our community being heard and our concerns being actioned. We came together because we want to see better representation and better outcomes for our community, so we decided to get to work to make this happen.
We are mobilising because we know our electorate is missing out, and voters are being shortchanged, from decades of being regarded as a "safe" Liberal seat.
In 2022 for example, electorates received federal community grants that, if evenly distributed, would have amounted to $18 million each. Moncrieff received just $2.8 million because it was a “safe" seat which the Morrison government decided did not deserve its attention. This happened despite funding favouring Coalition seats.
Through our community listening process, residents across Moncrieff are expressing a desire for our elected representatives to prioritise the interests of their community over party politics, personal ambition and vested interests.
If you would like to join the movement for better representation in Moncrieff, chip in to power our efforts by donating or signing up to volunteer.
